A leader’s influence is referred to as “the tone at the top.” While a leader’s values should align to those of the organization, its vision and mission, this is not always the case, as we know from the crises discussed earlier when referring to the classical failures at Enron, Tyco, WorldCom, Wells Fargo, and other notable companies. From an ethical and related effectiveness perspective, the leader’s values count since these generally become the values of an organization. How responsibly and ethically they choose to do so depends on a number of factors.
